Pilgrimage to National Shrine in Washington Set for Sept. 6 |

WHEELING—Bishop Michael J. Bransfield is inviting the faithful of the diocese to join him at the diocesan pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington Sept. 6, which will have an emphasis on prayer.
“This pilgrimage is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to deepen our faith,” Bishop Bransfield said, “and I encourage our clergy, religious and lay faithful to join me at the National Shrine.” |

Annual Italian Festival

WHEELING—Met by warm summer weather, hundreds of Catholics gathered at Heritage Port in Wheeling July 27 for the Upper Ohio Valley Italian Heritage Festival’s annual Mass celebrated by Bishop Michael J. Bransfield.
Bishop Bransfield expressed his joy with celebrating the Mass and being present for this annual commemoration of Italian heritage.

Bishop Michael J. Bransfield has made public the following announcements:
Father Douglas A. Ondeck is reappointed chaplain to Council No. 12630 of the Knights of Columbus for the fraternal year 2008-2009, effective immediately. This appointment is in addition to his current appointment as vice rector of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Charleston.
Father Christopher M. Turner is appointed chaplain to Council No. 12195 of the Knights of Columbus for the fraternal year 2008-2009, effective immediately. This appointment is in addition to his current appointment as pastor of Our Lady of Peace Parish in Wheeling.
Mr. David Tamplen is appointed chairman of the Diocesan Committee on Scouting for a period of two years, effective immediately. |

SHEPHERDSTOWN—Led by piper Scott Carr and women carrying a brightly colored silk streamer, symbolizing the spirit of the community, the people of St. Agnes Parish in Shepherdstown processed from their former church to their newly constructed church nearby July 20.
Upon their arrival, they gathered as Bishop Michael J. Bransfield blessed the new church and was presented the key and plans to the structure. The people then processed inside behind the bishop, Father T. Mathew Rowgh, pastor, and visiting priests and deacons for the dedication Mass for their new church.
